Amelia with Lorenzo, 2011 - Photo by Robin Schwartz

Robin Schwartz’s photographs are journeys into a world which she lives in with her daughter Amelia as well as various animals. Numerous photographs that show the young Amelia with exotic animals – tigers, chimpanzees, kangaroos, cats and dogs and countless other animals were taken over the last 13 years. The largest animal being an elephant, the smallest a cotton-top tamarin. The first photograph shows a three and a half year old Amelia, on the last one she’s a young woman.

The mother and daughter share an affinity with the animal kingdom, which allows them to live out their fantasies and explore their eccentricities together. Animals don’t just co-exist with humans, but also interact as full partners in the world they live in. Robin Schwartz’s photographs show living creatures, protagonists of her captured dramas. The world which Robin and her daughter Amelia experience is one where the line between human and animal is blurred, where animals are part of our world and humans are part of theirs.
