World Press Photo of the Year 2013 by John Stanmeyer, USA | VII Photo Agency for National Geographic

The winners of the World Press Photo 14 contest have been announced.

The US-American John Stanmeyer of VII Photo Agency wins  World Press Photo of the Year 2013. The prize-winning image shows African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night, raising their phones in an attempt to capture an inexpensive signal from neighboring Somalia—a tenuous link to relatives abroad. Djibouti is a common stop-off point for migrants in transit from such countries as Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea, seeking a better life in Europe and the Middle East. Stanmeyer shot the picture for National Geographic on February 26, 2013.

The winning image together with the others selected will be presented by KEYSTONE and with its Leading Partners Canon and Baumann & Cie, Banquiers as well as with gdz AG and media partners  NZZ am Sonntag and persönlich at Sihlcity's Folium in Zürich.
