Press images shock, inform, communicate and surprise – in short, they move us.

In the exhibition «Netzwerk Schweizer Pressefotografie» (Swiss Press Photography Network) in the Stadtmuseum Aarau, running from October 20, 2017 to July 8, 2018, the story of the image is followed, from assignment of the job all the way through to publication in the newspaper. This look behind the scenes reveals the people involved in the network, their various professional spheres, and the collaborations involved in bringing the images to the public eye.

The selected press photographs highlight the ever-recurring themes of published imagery, and how these change over time. The images have been sourced from a number of press image archives in Switzerland, including those of KEYSTONE. The reasoning behind the selection of photographs grew out of the image comparison and research work of the Press Image Archive Network, and their resulting publication «Schweizer Pressefotografie. Einblick in die Archive» (Swiss Press Photography: A Look into the Archives).

As part of the programme of events based around the exhibition, a lecture entitled «Ethik in der Pressefotografie»  (Ethics in Press Photography) by Alessandro della Valle, KEYSTONE's chief photographer, will take place on November 16, 2017 at 7.00 p.m.
