Conversation with IGOR ELUKOV | «I am not someone who dreams» | 23 June 2017

The young Russian photographer Igor Elukov is interested in the life of crows, wind or water as much as he is in human life, in people as well as their emotions and feelings. He composes his black and white pictures like a painter or a sculptor. Photography is a means to an end for him, a medium for a process of understanding and meditation.

Elukov says about himself: "You never know where the surprise is waiting for you, but you have to be prepared for it – to be ready for one´s own images. I observe the outside with the same attention as I look into myself. And sometimes, what I see outside, the lines and points, begins to swing with me, and awaken a feeling of a deep ontological sense of life. I still don’t fully understand what it is, but it is in that moment when I press the shutter.”

On Friday, June 23, 2017, the photographer Igor Elukov will tell us about his observations and impressions of a hard and ascetic lifestyle in the northern part of Russia. In cooperation with the COALMINE Forum for Documentary Photography, KEYSTONE presents a conversation with the photographer, which will be moderated in Russian, English and German by Lena Krylova, consultant in the field of development cooperation, and will touch upon the photographer’s suggestive perception.
